How you can help

Become a Friend of Masiphumelele

Funding for Masiphumelele Corporation comes entirely from individuals and small family foundations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people in South Africa. Each year, about 30% of the budget comes from the Founders. With no administrative overhead, 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to supporting scholars, building homes, providing AIDS education, or buying books for the library.

We need people who can not only offer financial resources, but will introduce us to people who either have a strong interest in South Africa or are attracted to Masi's ability to connect them directly with a person or project in a community that needs their help. Masi Corp may be too small or too geographically focused to receive grants from large foundations, but many families appreciate the very tangible connection with the cause they are supporting.

A minister from New Hampshire builds a house for the family of Loyiso, one of the scholars, – he changes their lives.

A high tech executive offers a two year scholarship for Nomtha to get IT training – he changes her life.

A group of college roommates sponsor Lungile to attend a top-rated high school – they change his life.

A first grade class in NH saves its pennies to buy a bookcase for a first grade class in Masiphumelele.

You can change someone’s life.

Why your dollar goes further in Masiphumelele:

  • All administrative overhead for Masiphumelele Corporation, including travel, volunteer expenses, and office supplies, is covered by the founders.
  • The twenty people working across Masi Corps’ many projects are all volunteers, keeping costs down and ensuring a greater financial impact on our initiatives.
  • Although the dollar has weakened against the rand in the past two years, the dollar still remains strong, providing more bang-for-the-buck than is possible in the U.S.
  • The cost of education is lower in Masiphumelelele.
