Legislative Update: 2017 Senate Bill Package to Amend PA 330 Being Revived in 2025

The Michigan Association of Security & Investigative Professionals (MASIP) is pleased to share a significant legislative update with our members. In partnership with Representatives Joseph Aragona and Mike Harris, MASIP is spearheading efforts to reintroduce a package of bills originally introduced in 2017 as Senate Bills 186 through 192, that aimed to modernize and amend Public Act 330 of 1968, the foundational law regulating private security and investigative services in Michigan.

The original 2017 legislative package -- SB 186, 187, 188, 189, 190, 191, and 192 -- sought to address longstanding structural and regulatory issues within the Act, streamline administrative procedures, clarify licensing requirements, and support higher professional standards across the industry. Although the bills did not advance at that time, MASIP believes the reforms proposed remain vital to the continued integrity and effectiveness of our profession.

2025 Reintroduction Underway

MASIP has submitted the 2017 bills to the Legislative Service Bureau (LSB) for redrafting in preparation for formal reintroduction in the Michigan House during the current legislative session. With strong commitment from Representatives, we are optimistic about the opportunity to advance this much-needed reform agenda item.

We will keep members informed as the reintroduction process progresses. Once draft language is available from the LSB, we will circulate the bill drafts for member review and comment. Your feedback will be critical to ensure the legislation reflects the operational realities and regulatory needs of today.

Stay Engaged

We encourage all current and future MASIP members to stay active and engaged as this initiative develops. Your voice and expertise are essential in shaping legislation that affects our licenses, businesses, and clients. MASIP will continue to provide updates via email and our official communications channels.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to raising the standards of professionalism in our industry.
